Read More	Norine Turland (Farrell) September 15, 1924 January 9, 2017 Norine Turlands life came full circle on January 9, 2017, at Kincardine Hospital where she passed away in the same place she was born 92 years earlier (Sept 15, 1924). The most important thing for Norine was her family and friends and she was never happier than when surrounded by others. She took a genuine interest in others stories, hopes and dreams and lived by her mothers motto, A stranger is a friend you havent met yet. Norine grew up on a small farm just south of Kincardine. She had one younger brother, Charles Farrell, who predeceased her (1959). She shared memories of walking the railroad line to a one-room schoolhouse, riding into town for church each Sunday, and threshing and other work bees with her Farrell cousins (father Samuel Farrell). Norines mother was Sadie Swanson of Kincardine and Norine also loved visiting in town with her Swanson relatives. She was a combination of her fathers Irish and her mother Scottish roots. Strong connections with her cousins endured through her life- they enjoyed family reunions, gatherings in Victoria Park on Saturday nights for the Kincardine Scottish pipe band and the annual Corn Party. Norine contracted polio at age 16, but worked tenaciously to get back on her feet. She missed a full year of school (grade 10) and joined the war effort making leading edges for mosquito planes at the Malcolm furniture factory. In the summer of 44 a young British airman based at Port Albert saw her across the dance floor at the Pavilion and asked her to dance and the rest is history. Arthur and Norine formed a handsome couple and married just before he was martialed back to Britain early in 1945. They began their life together when he came back to Canada at the end of the war and were the love of each others lives for almost 73 years. Their lives centered in Kincardine, Bayfield and Goderich. Norine is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur Turland of Bedford, England. She was the dear mother of The Group of Seven plus One: Rosemary Addison (Ed), Aurora; George, London; Charles (Rhonda), Kincardine; James, Kincardine; Susan (Bernard Joly D. 2015), Quebec City; Robert (Eve Geisler), Guelph; Brenda Colquhoun (Bob), Kincardine; and Carol Besler, Toronto. She somehow made each feel listened to and valued; she filled our souls with love and our bodies with wonderful soups and amazing butter tarts; she was a full-time at-home mom. Norine loved being grama to 16 grandchildren and great-grama to 11 great-grandchildren. As her family grew Norine, along with Arthur, published the Northurland News a monthly, photocopied summary of notable happenings a 1970s version of Facebook☺ She will be dearly missed. Norine possessed a most gentle, fair nature counter-balanced with a strong determination and optimism that carried her through significant illnesses. She touched many lives with her kind, non-judgemental manner, her compassion and earnest interest in others- always bringing out the best in those around her.
