Description	:	Norma A. Jerde, age 94, of Burnsville, MN, passed away on November 27, 2016 in her home. She had been briefly receiving in-home hospice care and family members were with her. Norma was raised in Lake Preston, SD. She attended Iowa State University and Augustana College following which she began teaching in Britton SD. Jerde, age 94, of Burnsville, MN, passed away on November 27, 2016 in her home. She had been briefly receiving in-home hospice care and family members were with her. Norma was raised in Lake Preston, SD. She attended Iowa State University and Augustana College following which she began teaching in Britton SD. While in Britton she met Randy Jerde, her husband to be. Norma and Randy were married in June of 1946 and lived in Brownton MN. They then lived for a few years each in Appleton MN and Morris MN before moving to Watertown SD which became their home for 26 years and is where they raised their sons, Paul and Jeffrey. Following Jeff’s graduation from high school, Randy and Norma moved to Sioux Falls SD where Randy continued his work with Benson Quinn Company. Following Randy’s retirement from Benson Quinn they moved to Burnsville MN in 1979. When Randy passed away in November 2002 they had been married for 56 years. Norma continued to live independently until her death. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker extraordinaire, Norma was active in many activities and organizations. She served for years as the head organizer of the Watertown Grace Lutheran Church annual Lutefisk dinner, preparing over 700 dinners for guests during the holiday period. She was also very active in the service and philanthropic organization P.E.O. Upon relocating to Burnsville she became a founding member of the EI Chapter of P.E.O. in Burnsville. She was an active and accomplished bridge player and at one time played in 8 bridge groups. Most of all her life was defined by love of family. She was devoted to her family and cherished spending time with her grandchildren. We are saddened by her death but we feel very fortunate to have had so many wonderful years with mother and to appreciate that, until only recently, she was able to lead such a rich and fulfilling life with great independence, with a sense of safety and security and with so many wonderful friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gabe and Ida Ostroot; brother Warren; and sister Geraldine. She is survived by her sons Paul and Jeff, by her daughter’s-in-law Marilyn (Jackson) Jerde and Patricia (Medlin) Jerde; grandchildren Kayla Jerde, Peter Jerde, Thomas Jerde, Peter Tuenge, Erica McClure; and her 4 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a short memorial service at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, 7800 150th St. W, Apple Valley (952-432-7273). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Program for Continuing Education at the EI, PEO Chapter.
