Description	:	Noma D. Cargill, 97, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at home. Norma was born on Oct. 1, 1913, in Omaha to Eugene T. and Emma (Vesh) Bovee and was adopted by H.P. and Maria (Jorgensen) Jessen at the age of 10 days. Survivors are: daughter, Linda Crocker of Lincoln; stepsons, Ronald Barnard and Jerry Barnard, both of California; stepdaughter, Gailyn Nocente of Maryland; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 21 step-grandchildren and 48 step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren. Norma was born on Oct. 1, 1913, in Omaha to Eugene T. and Emma (Vesh) Bovee and was adopted by H.P. and Maria (Jorgensen) Jessen at the age of 10 days. Norma attended the Cushing and Dannebrog Public Schools graduating from high school in 1931. She attended Grand Island Business College in 1938. She was united in marriage to Emmett Bechthold on Dec. 24, 1932, in Grand Island. Mr. Bechthold died on June 5, 1934. She married Ray "R.J." Barnard on Jan. 7, 1942, in North Platte. On Nov. 19, 1959, she married Lee R. Cargill in Grand Island. Mr. Cargill died on June 19, 1972. Norma taught at the Grand Island Business College from 1940 until 1943. She worked at local grocery stores as a bookkeeper from 1944 until 1950. She was a bookkeeper at Grand Island Trust from 1950 until 1982. Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church, where since 1938, her duties included that of Chairwoman of the Women's Circles, Active Chair, Treasurer's duties, and Lay Ministry. She was also a member of the Cloverleaf Extension Club, Danish Sisterhood, and Past President of the BPW. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; spouses; son, Delbert Bechthold; great-grandson, Joshua Robertson; and brothers, Pete and Hans Jessen. Published Grand Island Independent 1/12/2011
