Hooker, 91, Kokomo, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born Jan. 22, 1919, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Lea and Arlene Gunning. On Sept. 16, 1939, she married Paul E. Hooker in Kokomo, and he passed away Sept. 17, 1999. She was a homemaker and worked part-time at J.C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, Armstrong Landon and as a Real Life Daycare employee. She graduated with honors from Kokomo High School in 1935 at the age of 16. She enjoyed being at home, raising her four children and growing her prize-winning African violets. She enjoyed fishing whenever she got the opportunity and hosting family gatherings in her home. She was an active member of both Union Street and First Friends churches in Kokomo, playing the violin in the church orchestra, singing in the choir and participating in various Joy Circle activities. She is survived by a son, Tom (Vicki) Hooker, Kokomo; a daughter, Barbara (Rex) Kingseed, Sharpsville; a sister, Joyce (Jack) Duncan, Johnstown, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michelle Savage, Fishers, Randy Hooker, Kokomo, Brian (Angela) Hooker, Zionsville, Erin (Charles) Courtney, Chicago, and Brandon Kingseed and Kelli Kingseed, both of Sharpsville; and two great-grandchildren, Regan Hooker and Jacob Hooker, both of Zionsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Jim and Mike; sister, Kathryn; and brother, David. Services are 3 p.m. today at First Friends Meeting, 1801 Zartman Road, Kokomo, with J. Annie Glen officiating. A private burial will take place Monday. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church mission fund in care of First Friends Meeting.
