Description	:	Norma Gene Engelson, age 88, formerly of Garden City, IA, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA. Norma Gene (Olson) Engelson was born in Jewell, Iowa on October 9, 1924 to Lewis L. and Rachel Ellen (Gilley) Olson. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1942. During high school and following graduation she worked at Champion's Bakery and Strand Theatre in Jewell. On June 27, 1943, Norma Gene was united in marriage to Myrle Engelson. Norma Gene (Olson) Engelson was born in Jewell, Iowa on October 9, 1924 to Lewis L. and Rachel Ellen (Gilley) Olson. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1942. During high school and following graduation she worked at Champion's Bakery and Strand Theatre in Jewell. On June 27, 1943, Norma Gene was united in marriage to Myrle Engelson. The made their home on the family farm east of Garden City and were members of Stavanger Free Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. Norma Gene's joy was her family. She shared her faith with them through her love of music. She began singing as a soloist at age two; as an adult, directed junior and senior choirs; and sang with her family of three generations. Norma Gene passed away May 21, 2013 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children Larry (Jean) Engelson, Patty (Gary) Nelson and Marcia Rodney) Hoversten; son-in-law Gary Taylor; nine grand-children and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Duane (Glenna) Engelson of Dolan Springs, AZ, Ralph Lee of Urbandale, IA; sister-in-law Marilyn Engelson of Radcliffe, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Myrle, daughter Jolene and son-in-law Phillip Riemenschneider, sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Bill Buckels and sister-in-law Eleanor Lee. Memorial contributions may be made to Stavanger Lutheran Church, Hubbard Care Center or Israel Family Hospice House.
