Auxiliary rosary recited at 4 p.m. Norma was born on May 9, 1931, in Holy Cross, daughter of Anton and Susan (Ries) Maiers. She graduated from Leo High School with the Class of 1949. She married Fred M. Wessels on Nov. 11, 1950, in Holy Cross. Norma worked at Ben Franklin for 38 years and enjoyed her work as a seamstress. She was very active in both the American Legion and V.F.W. auxiliaries. Norma loved having her grandchildren nearby, and she occasionally enjoyed going to the casino. Surviving are her husband, Fred M. Wessels; a son Ron, of Earlham; a daughter, Susanne (Roger) Manternach, of Brownsburg, Ind.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Gladys Knipper, of Dyersville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Maiers and Germaine Schuster, both of Dyersville, Phyllis (Doc) Clemens, of Bettendorf, and Mary Lou (Vernon) White, of Kearney, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Richard in 1992, Randy, in 2009, Rodney and Russell, in infancy; a brother, Merlin Maiers; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Virgil Knipper Eileen (Clarence) Engelken, Arnold Schuster and Ruth (Wayne) Osenberg.
