Description	:	NORMA JEAN PETERSON Norma Jean Peterson was born August 13, 1936 at Stuart, Nebraska. She passed from this life on June 10, 2002 at her home near Brocksburg, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 27 days. Normas was the third child of Asa and Lucy (Wilcox) Norton. She was the oldest daughter and therefore her parents' helper caring for 12 siblings. Norma received her elementary education at a rural school near Stuart. Read More	NORMA JEAN PETERSON Norma Jean Peterson was born August 13, 1936 at Stuart, Nebraska. She passed from this life on June 10, 2002 at her home near Brocksburg, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 27 days. Normas was the third child of Asa and Lucy (Wilcox) Norton. She was the oldest daughter and therefore her parents' helper caring for 12 siblings. Norma received her elementary education at a rural school near Stuart. She graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1954. Upon graduation, Norma took Normal Training to become an elementary teacher. She was employed at the Brocksburg School in Keya Paha County for one year. During her year of teaching, she met her future husband, Manfred Peterson. Manfred and Norma were married on August 22, 1955. To this union four children were born: Dewey Leonard, Anita Sue, Alan Scott and Vicki Jean. Norma was a devoted mother and wife. She was a willing worker in the community, particularly 4-H activities, while her children were growing up. Church was also very important to Norma. She served on several church boards and was treasurer of the United Methodist Church in Jamison, Nebraska for many years. While her children were young, she was actively involved in Sunday School and Bible School. Norma was known for always having her coffee pot on. Everyone was welcome in her kitchen for a cup of java and some good conversation. If you had time, or ever visitied in the evening, she was always ready for a good round of cards, if you could find them at home. In their retirement, they have enjoyed many games of bingo and many trips to local casinos to try their luck. Norma enjoyed these times very much, but her biggest enjoyment was when her family could gather for a picnic or just a day of visiting. Thanksgiving Day was an important holiday to her, as many of her brothers and sisters would gather at her home to enjoy a big meal and a day of cards and Tripoly. Christmas was also a big day and she enjoyed finding something for everyone. The thirteen grandchildren who were blessed to call her "Grandma" were a very important part of her life. In August of 2000, Norma and Manfred celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with all their children, grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Norma leaves to mourn her passing her husband of almost 47 years, Manfred; her children, Dewey and wife Diane of rural Newport, NE; Anita Swim of Springview and her fiance Gary Ekroth of Dallas, SD; Alan and wife Teresa of Burke, SD; and Vicki and husband Bruce Ferguson of Springview, NE; thirteen grandchildren, Desarae, Kristy and Cody Peterson, Brent, Chad and Matt Swim, Meghan, Abigail, Ethan and Anna Peterson, and Linnea, Alanna and Trevor Ferguson. She is also survived by her mother, Lucy Norton of Stuart, NE; six brothers, Raymond and wife Nedra Norton of Ainsworth, NE; Dick and wife Mary Norton of Stuart, NE; Don and wife Kathy Norton of Stuart, NE; Larry and wife Kay Norton of McDonough, GA; Dean Norton of Glenrock, WY, and Bob and wife Marietta Norton of Stuart, NE; four sisters, Mary and husband Frank Obermire of Omaha, NE; Gladys Norton of Lewisburg, KS; Joyce and husband Dan Murphy of Ocean Shores, WA; and Karen and husband Dan Kallhoff of Norfolk, NE; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her father, Asa Norton; two brothers, Jim and Gene Norton; and a son-in-law, Randy Swim. Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Burke, SD, Pastor Kyle Reinhiller officiating. Interment was in Spotted Tail Cemetery, rural Jamison. A Tribute Written by daughter Vicki There have been so many good times We can't begin to name them all. You've been there for each one of us All we had to do was call. The ups and down of life Aren't easy at all to take. But you always kept your chin up For everyone else's sake. The nights have been so long And sleep doesn't easily come. Through the sun comes up in the morning All we have felt is numb. We know you're in a better place And will wait there for us all. But it's impossible to understand Why the good Lord had to call. Our hearts are breaking sorely For our wife, mother and friend. We've tossed and turned and prayed For this dream to come to an end. We know what you would say And those words have helped us through. But it doesn't keep us from wondering What now are we going to do? We love you and we miss you And we know that life goes on. And we all have special memories Now that you are gone. We were told just the other day That a piece of Heaven is love. We've all seen Heaven through you Blessed by our Lord above. So now it's time to say goodbye Though our hearts are breaking yet.
