Norma Jean Waller, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Norma was born May 7, 1936 at Alma, Nebraska, the third child and only daughter of Harvey Neil and Mildred Elizabeth (Johnson) Sutton. She started her primary education from Alma Public Schools and in the second grade, her family relocated to Holdrege, where she finished her education, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1954. She then pursued higher education at Lincoln General School of Nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she graduated in August of 1957. She then passed her nursing exams as a Registered Nurse that fall. On December 1, 1957, she was united in marriage to John B. “Jack” Waller at Holdrege and to this union two sons were born: Michael John and Mark Alan. The family made their home on the family farm seven miles northwest of Holdrege, where they farmed and fed cattle commercially until moving into Holdrege in July of 1998. Norma began her nursing career at the Brewster Clinic for Dr. Wayne Brewster as a surgical and clinical nurse. Throughout the years, she continued working full-time and then on a part-time basis until her retirement in June of 1998 at the Brewster Clinic and Hospital, which later became the Family Medical Specialties. Jack and Norma were married fifty years, three months and 17 days at the time of his passing on March 17, 2008. In July of 2014, Norma began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Norma was active in the community, serving on many boards including: Past President and Treasurer of Meals on Wheels Board of Directors, President of her local RN Club and later became affiliated with the Nebraska Nurses Association, and served on the County Heart Association’s Board. Norma also volunteered as the Chairman of the Rural Fund Drive for the Cancer Association for many years and assisted with the bloodmobile and American Heart Association as well. She was very active in many facets of her nursing career. She was a long-time member of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church north of Holdrege, where she served in many capacities including: church women’s group, youth group, and taught a beginners Sunday school class. She and Jack loved spending time going to countless sporting events; but most of all, they loved spending time with their family and attending all of their grandkids activities. She leaves to celebrate her life; her two sons: Michael Waller and his wife, Kerry of Holdrege, and Mark Waller and his wife, Kim of Lincoln; six granddaughters: Allisa, Audra and Addison Waller of Holdrege and Kaitlyn, Mallory and Makenzie Waller of Lincoln; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Waller; two brothers: Don Sutton and his wife, Susan of Fullerton, California and Jim Sutton of Holdrege; two sisters-in-law: Mary Alice Feeney of Davis, California and Virginia Gustafson of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Jack; she was was preceded in death by brother, Roger Sutton; and brothers-in-law: Dick Gustafson, Robert Feeney, and Roger Waller and his wife, Mae. Visitation was held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Norma’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
