Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden is in charge of arrangements. Norma Jean Nelson was born March 19, 1933, to Clarence and Ruby (Vossberg) Duerst in Pierce County. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster. She attended grade school in Foster and graduated from Plainview High School in 1950. Jean attended Norfolk Business College and was secretary for the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce for one year. She then attended the Electronic Radio and Television Institute in Omaha for airline personnel training and was employed by United Airlines in Denver, Chicago, and San Francisco. Her next move was to Miami, Florida where she worked for several years. In 1962, Jean married Wayne Corbin. They both worked for Northwestern Engineering Company in South Dakota, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. She worked as field office manager. They had one son, Kent. In 1973, Wayne died. Jean and her son moved to Plainview where she was secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. In 1979, Jean married Willis Nelson and they lived in Tilden. Willis died in 2014. Jean is survived by her son Kent Corbin of Beatrice, Nebraska; brother, Ray Duerst and wife, Jackie; and two nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
