Garst, died at one o'clock Saturday afternoon, in Asbury hospital, Salina, the result of second degree burns sustained Wednesday, April 5, at the home of her parents, who live in the tenant-house on the F.E. Pierce farm west of Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Garst are employed by Mr. Pierce on his farm. Norma Jolene was putting paper in the stove when her clothing caught on fire. Before the flames could be put out, they had spread until her entire body from her waist to her neck, was burned. From the first, the seriousness of her condition was apparent, as the burns were of second degree. She was taken to Asbury hospital, where she lived only until Saturday afternoon, April 8. Norma was born November 11, 1934. Burial was in the cemetery at Glasco. Glasco Sun, April 13, 1944, page 3: NORMA JOLENE GARST Norma Jolene Garst was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garst, November 11, 1933, and departed this world April 8, 1944, at the age of 10 years, 4 months and 28 days. Norma was a loving child, and though she had been affected from the dread disease, spinal meningitis, at the age of three years, when she lost both her hearing and her speech, she still enjoyed life and was happy. She leaves to mourn, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garst; two sisters, Shirley and Sandra; five brothers, Charles, James, Darrell, Guy, and Paul; two half-brothers, Virgil and Verle; and two grandmothers, Mrs. Mae Jamison and Mrs. Mary Garst. Funeral services were held at the Stine Funeral Parlors in Glasco, on Monday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. R.R. Braddick officiating.
