Born in a one room house in Springdale Arkansas on September 9, 1931 to Alfonso and Minnie (Parham) Beasley, Norma Lea enrolled at the University of Arkansas at the age of 16 and entered the School of Law at the University of Arkansas at the age of 18. Born in a one room house in Springdale Arkansas on September 9, 1931 to Alfonso and Minnie (Parham) Beasley, Norma Lea enrolled at the University of Arkansas at the age of 16 and entered the School of Law at the University of Arkansas at the age of 18. Norma obtained her L.L.B. and became a licensed attorney at the age of 21 in 1953 as the only woman and youngest student in her class. Norma also completed a Bachelor of Science in Law degree in 1960 from the University of Arkansas after moving to Dallas and attended SMU where she continued her graduate studies in real estate and business. Norma passed the Texas bar exam in 1958 and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Norma taught business law and real estate at SMU's downtown campus and helped the Dallas County Community Colleges establish real estate departments at El Centro Junior College and Eastfield Junior College. Norma and her long-time business partner, Imogene Walker, established Trinity Abstract & Title Company in Ellis County, Texas in 1965 and then purchased the Dallas branch of Safeco Land Title in 1978. Within a few years, Norma and her partners owned and managed title companies in eight Texas counties with over 40 offices, becoming one of the largest independent title companies in Texas. Throughout her career, Norma served on numerous boards, including Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation, Oaks Bank & Trust Company, The Dallas Citizens Council, Dallas Junior Achievement, Women's Advisory Board of Dallas Baptist University, the Dallas Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Board of Governors - National Women's Economic Alliance, and the Advisory Board for CREW. In 1984, Norma was selected by NBC TODAY SHOW as one of the Most Outstanding Business Women in America; was a 1992 recipient of Beta Sigma Phi's First Lady of Dallas Award; was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Arkansas in 1986; was an Outstanding Alumna of the Arkansas School of Law in 1988 and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas; was a 1998 recipient of the Texas Trailblazer Award from the Senate of the State of Texas; was named to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame by then Governor George W. Bush; received the 1995 Outstanding Achievement Award Winner for Commercial Real Estate Women of Dallas; was a sustaining Life Fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation; was the 1997 recipient of the Athena Award from the Greater Dallas Chamber; was a 1989 recipient of the "She Knows Where She's Going" award from the Girls Club of Dallas. Norma was proud to be a lifelong member of Rotary and a charter member of the Dallas CREW. Norma founded two scholarships for the University of Arkansas - The School of Business Norma Lea Beasley Endowed Scholarship for the graduating senior female with the highest academic achievement in real estate and the School of Law Norma Lea Beasley Endowed Scholarship to be given to a student demonstrating financial need. Always willing and generous with her time and money, Norma mentored and provided financial assistance to many men and women in the Dallas area as they established and advanced themselves in their business careers. Norma lived her Christian faith and kept three rules - work hard; be ethical and fair; and maintain integrity. Norma is survived by her family in Springdale, Arkansas - sister Imogene Mayse; nephew Roddy Mayse; niece Vickie Murphy; great niece Taylor Rae Murphy; great niece Meghan (Murphy) Williams, husband Corey Williams and daughter Delaney. A memorial service celebrating Norma's life will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood, Dallas, Texas, with a reception immediately following the service in Watson Hall. Norma will then be returning home to Arkansas to be placed at rest with her parents. Published in Dallas Morning News from April 5 to April 10, 2012
