Norma, a nurse, was born June 9, 1929, in St. Louis, the daughter of William G. Meury and wife Ada, nee Schinzing. Norma was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Cappeln, and was an active member in Mary/Martha. She also was a proud member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. Read More	Norma Lea Brakensiek, nee Meury, 89, Foristell, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Parklane Nursing and Rehab, Wentzville. Norma, a nurse, was born June 9, 1929, in St. Louis, the daughter of William G. Meury and wife Ada, nee Schinzing. Norma was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Cappeln, and was an active member in Mary/Martha. She also was a proud member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. Norma cherished the 67 years of marriage that she spent with the love of her life, her husband, Erich Brakensiek. In her younger years, Norma enjoyed playing basketball and acting in her drama club. Her more recent hobbies included activities such as quilting, embroidery and bingo. She had a great appreciation and love for the arts, crafts and ceramics. However, the activity that Norma valued the most was raising and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children, Christine (Roy) Ramey, Cappeln, Dan (Sara) Brakensiek, Winchester, Va., Sheila (Gil) Duke, Corona, Calif., Wendy Krueger, St. Peters, Heidi (Sue) Martin, Lake Saint Louis, Lisa (Timothy) Borrson, Kurt Brakensiek, Heather (William) Stubblefield, and Erich "Rick" Brakensiek and fiancee Jen, all of Cappeln; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of late Erich Brakensiek of Cappeln. She was also preceded in death by her father, William G. Meury; mother, Ada Meury; one brother, William Meury; and two sisters, Anita Nieweg and Joyce Grapenthin. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m. at St. John's U.C.C. Cemetery, Cappeln. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's U.C.C. or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O.
