Norma Lee Jones, daughter of Herb and Julia (Hagen) Honey, was born November 4, 1934, at the family home on the Missouri River Bottom. Norma started school at District 91-North (one half mile south of Lazy River Acres Resort), and in the fourth grade, began attending school in Niobrara, Nebraska, after the family moved into town. Read More	Norma died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska. Norma Lee Jones, daughter of Herb and Julia (Hagen) Honey, was born November 4, 1934, at the family home on the Missouri River Bottom. Norma started school at District 91-North (one half mile south of Lazy River Acres Resort), and in the fourth grade, began attending school in Niobrara, Nebraska, after the family moved into town. Norma grew up in Niobrara, and attended Niobrara Public School. On September 4, 1951, she was married to Frank Eldon "Bub" Jones in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple was blessed with six children, Eldon, Greg, Mary Ann, Beverly, Doug, and Jeff. Norma was a devoted housewife, mother, and homemaker. Norma also worked with Bub in the family's service station and bait shop in Niobrara. For the "after two o'clock fishermen", you could always see her smiling face as she sold them their minnows and nightcrawlers at Frontier Bait Shop, and later, Greg's Motor and Marine. Norma was a member of the Niobrara Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, dancing, watching the wrens nest and hummingbirds feed outside her windows, and traveling. Norma and Bub had traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and even to Germany, for the "real" Oktoberfest. Bub recalled how on the trip to Munich, Germany, a friend they were traveling with suggested that they check out the "Hafra House". Norma misunderstood, and asked, "Why would I want to go to the Opera House?" Their friend explained it was the "Hafra House", the largest bar in Germany, with music and bands on four floors of the bar. Norma and Bub got a good chuckle out of that, and had such a good time celebrating in Munich. But it was the family home that was one of Norma's favorite destinations, when everyone gathered for Christmas and Thanksgiving, or just to spend time together. She loved to play "spoons" with her six kids, her sister Mavis Rieple, Mavis' sons, Tony and Herb Knutson, and Grandma Honey. Many happy memories will be remembered of the "racket" that was made as everyone around the table picked up the spoons! Another happy memory that comes to mind was the time Norma was serving the family her fried chicken, and as she placed the platter on the table, thought she'd "discreetly" grab the gizzard. Apparently, the older kids had the same idea, and Norma nearly ended up getting her hand jabbed with several forks! Norma blessed her family with many fun and happy times together, that will forever live on in their hearts and memories. Norma is survived her husband of 60 years, Frank "Bub" Jones of Niobrara, Nebraska; sons, Eldon (Gayle) Jones of Torrington, Wyoming, Greg Jones of Niobrara, Nebraska, Doug (Peggy) Jones of Yankton, South Dakota, and Jeff (Donna) Jones of Crofton, Nebraska; daughters, Mary Ann Skuya of Niobrara, Nebraska, and Beverly (Robert) Motacek of Verdel, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Julia Honey; sister, Mavis Rieple; daughter-in-law, Carla Jones; son-in-law, John Skuya; grandsons, Blaine Johnson and Garret Jones; and great-granddaughter, Mary Rowley.
