Description	:	Norma Opal Laughery, age 102, of Bayard, IA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center. Born on August 22,1911 in Guthrie County, IA, she was the daughter of Morton and Edith (Wright) Guy. She grew up on her family's farm west of Guthrie Center. Read More	Norma Opal Laughery, age 102, of Bayard, IA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center. Born on August 22,1911 in Guthrie County, IA, she was the daughter of Morton and Edith (Wright) Guy. She grew up on her family's farm west of Guthrie Center. Norma graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1921. Following graduation she worked for Taylor Law Firm, The Sweet Shop on Wednesday nights and a grocery store on Saturday nights and as a hired girl. On April 30,1935 she married Burdette Laughery and made their in Bayard, Iowa operating the Laughery Oil Co. and later Bayard Motor and Implement. Two daughters were born to this union Sheryl Dee and Gaye. Norma stayed busy with her daughters many activities. She also took part in many community activities, gave sewing lesson, decorated wedding and birthday cakes, gave perms and cut hair in her home, and worked in their business. Norma provided a home for 3 local girls so they could finish the school year when their parents moved away. Norma and Burdette enjoyed camping and traveling in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. Norma was Grand Marshall in Bayard's Quasquicentennial parade in 2006. Norma enjoyed playing bridge, being with her friends and family and attending dances with Burdette. She was a member Bayard United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Women's Club, T.T.T., P.T.A, Band Mothers, Lions Club, Dandy Lions, and the Red Hats. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Burdette, infant son Richard and daughter Connie, a grandson Brad Bielenberg, a great granddaughter Brenna Bielenberg, her parents, and six siblings. Survivors include her two daughters: Sheryl Dee (Don) Bielenberg of Scranton, Iowa, and Gaye (Stan) Hoselton of Lexington, Illinois, 6 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
