Bejing was a long way from Boyd, Minnesota, where she was born Norma Verbena Studer on April 6, 1914. Her family moved to Sioux Falls when she was 12. Norma met Abel H. De Groot at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, where she sang in the choir and he ushered. They married there. Norma has been a vital part of the Sioux Falls community. In addition to the church, she was active in the YWCA Century Club, Chapter BC of PEO Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Sioux Valley/Sanford Health Auxiliary, and philanthropy. She was passionate about traveling and being with people. A number of her friends have said, "When I talk to Norma, I feel energized and better about myself." Norma is preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Schaefer, her brother, Vernon Studer, her husband, Abel H. De Groot, her daughter, Joyce De Groot, her grandson, Gavan De Groot, and many of her good friends in the Sioux Falls community and at Touchmark at All Saints.
