Description	:	Norman Claude Riley (76) passed away on December 10, 2004, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born in the family home in Gove County, Kansas on June 29, 1928, to Alexander W. Riley and Lois (Cornelison) Riley. In 1937, the family moved cross country to Chelan, Washington, traveling by farm truck converted to living quarters. Read More	Norman Claude Riley (76) passed away on December 10, 2004, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born in the family home in Gove County, Kansas on June 29, 1928, to Alexander W. Riley and Lois (Cornelison) Riley. In 1937, the family moved cross country to Chelan, Washington, traveling by farm truck converted to living quarters. Working along the way for gas and provisions he developed a life-long love of camping, and enjoying God's creation. He began working in the orchards and driving company trucks at 14, due to the wartime labor shortage. Upon graduation from Chelan High School in 1946, he joined the Marines along with several friends. Upon his discharge, he returned to Chelan and worked at various jobs, including orchard work, service station attendant, and wild fire suppression. He then worked as a concrete truck driver and finisher. In 1950, he married Marilyn J. Allen and moved to Brewster where he drove Euclid in the construction of Chief Joseph Dam. In 1951, a son, Lanny, was born, and in 1952, the family moved to Wenatchee where he was employed by Alcoa for 5 years. In 1955, a son, Steven was born, and in 1956, a daughter, Alisa was born. In 1958, while working as a heavy equipment oiler on Rocky Reach Dam, he was seriously injured in an industrial accident. After his recovery he went to work for the Chelan County P.U.D. working his way up to Hydro-Mechanic Foreman where he retired in 1985. He bought and operated 2 orchards during his employment with the P.U.D. He loved his family, and was the one that everyone depended upon to fix (or figure out how to fix) anything metal, wood, mechanical, or otherwise, (except those things he did not wish to fix - in which case, "they couldn't be done"). He was also the one depended upon to rig or move anything no matter how heavy, large or awkward to include two story houses and playhouses. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and had great affection and respect for his true friends. The outdoors, skiing, camping, hunting (Moose, deer, elk, antelope or pretty much anything else that ran or flew) skiing, traveling - especially in the mountains, and skiing, were a great joy to him. Did we mention skiing? He loved loud fireworks, wild carnival rides and loud or wild colors. He was especially proud of riding the Roller Coaster and the "slingshot" at the Top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas at age 74. He was a morning person, and liked the companionship of his coffee buddies at the Country Inn. He is survived by and was greatly loved by: his wife of nearly 54 years and by his children, Steven C. Riley and wife Meg Riley of Richland, WA., Alisa M. (Riley)Michael and husband Jerry Michael of Wenatchee; his grandchildren, Andrea Riste and husband Jarred, Laine Riley of Richland; Angela Michael of Philadelphia, PA., Savannah Michael of Wenatchee, Amy Simpson of Wenatchee, and husband Joshua - currently serving in Iraq; and by his great-grandchildren, Braeden Boast, Bryce Riste, Alexis Esquivel and Mikayla Michael. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Godbey of Brewster and Janet Reeves of Kent; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Lanny W. Riley, and two brothers, Dewayne Riley of Rowland Heights, California and Wallace l. Riley of Brewster. He was a member of the Messiah Ministry Christian Fellowship of Wenatchee, worshiping with the same congregation for over 40 years. He passed peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with his wife by his side, just 21 days short of 54 years together. He will be greatly missed, and we are deeply grieved, but we do not grieve as those who have no hope. The promise is sure, and our hearts are comforted. We will see him again in a joyful reunion. Services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum. Viewing will take place at Jones & Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, and Wednesday, December 15, 2004, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones & Jones Funeral Home.
