Description	:	On the afternoon of April 24, 2015 Norman D. Hoferer, age 85, surrounded by his family in his home, cut his final field of wheat, crossed over the great divide to help the lord on his operation. Norman's journey through life began in Orchard Nebraska on December 28, 1929, the only son of Harry and Lillian (Novak) Hoferer. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Silesia, Montana. Read More	On the afternoon of April 24, 2015 Norman D. Hoferer, age 85, surrounded by his family in his home, cut his final field of wheat, crossed over the great divide to help the lord on his operation. Norman's journey through life began in Orchard Nebraska on December 28, 1929, the only son of Harry and Lillian (Novak) Hoferer. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Silesia, Montana. The first night in Montana, he slept in a house not five hundred yards from where he lived his whole life. His early life was spent helping on the family farm. In 1950 they purchased the home place in Silesia. On March 2, 1952, he married the love of his life, Rosemary Briggs. THey built a home on the farm that they lived in their whole married life together. Into this home, they brought 2 sons; Melvin (Michelle) and Jess (Cristy) who worked side by side with their dad until his passing. Norman loved to harvest crops. He spent many hours running a combine from the time he was 12 years old until the fall of 2014. He said he was lucky because most farmers only get to raise 40 crops in a lifetime, but he got to raise over 60 crops in his lifetime. He served his community by spending many years on the ASCS committee. He spent 15 years on the Joliet Rural Fire Board. During that time, he was a leading force in building the Silesia Fire Station. Norman was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, 3 grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Wilkerson, Kyle (Beth) Hoferer, Tyrel Hoferer and 5 great-grandchildren, all who live in the Silesia area. A service will be held at the Joliet Wesleyan Church on Saturday May 2, 2015, at 10:00a.m. Burial will take place at the Rockvale Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Joliet Vol. Fire Dept. or a charity of one's choice. Provide comfort for the family by planting a tree in memory of Norman D.
