Mr. Ferris was born in Bristow, la., Nov. 17, 1870, was graduated from high school there and from Upper Iowa university in 1899. His father, S. W. Ferris, established the nursery business here in 1869. The nursery does a nationwide business. Earl Ferris was married Oct. 1, 1902, to Alice May Franklin, of Hampton. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, A. Wayne Ferris, manager of the nursery business, and two daughters, Mrs. Ed Reagan and I Mrs. Arnold Kluever, both of Hampton are five grandchildren. 1 Mrs. Kluever was recently dis-i charged as a member of the WAVES. She was stationed in Philadelphia. Her husband, a lieutenant colonel, is stationed in Texas. Mr. Ferris served as a state fair hoard director from dis- trict 3 from 1919 to 1939. He was al-tive in the Rotary club and was a member of the Church of Christ. He also was a member of the Masonic lodge and belonged to the Shrine. He was a past president of the Iowa Nurserymen's association. Services will be held here Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the home. Burial will be here. A Friend of Man IN the death of Earl Ferris of Hampton, North Iowa has lost one of its finest citizens. In his nursery business he built well upon the foundations laid by his father nearly 75 years ago. Under his guiding hand the business took on nationwide dimensions. But in the development of his business, he never let himself be come so pre-occupied as to neglect his civic responsibilities. He found time to help direct Iowa's state fair; he was active in his service club and in his church. He was a leader in all movements designed to help his community and his state. But, above and beyond all this, he was a friendly soul. There was about him a highly developed quality of humanness and sympathy. He loved and was loved by his fellow man.
