Norman was born Nov. 26, 1932, to Reinhold and Josephine (Jocober) Tietz, in Beulah. The Tietz family relocated to New Leipzig in 1950, where Norman graduated from high school. Norman was born Nov. 26, 1932, to Reinhold and Josephine (Jocober) Tietz, in Beulah. The Tietz family relocated to New Leipzig in 1950, where Norman graduated from high school. He was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1952-54, where he served in both Europe and England as a morse code specialist with the 39th AAA Battalion. Norman moved to Bismarck in 1955, where he attended and graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1957. He married Nyla Rivinius March 25, 1956. In late 1957, Norman began his career with Sioux Sporting Goods in Bismarck. While working there, Norman saw an advertisement for a small Honda trail motorcycle in a sporting magazine. He believed this to be a marketable item for local hunting enthusiasts. Within two weeks of responding to the ad, Sioux Sporting Goods became the first North Dakota Honda Motorcycle Dealership. The flourishing sales under Norman's watchful eye eventually gave birth to Sioux Cycle, where he was later assisted by the charms and savvy of his lovely wife, Nyla, for a successful 42-year run. Sioux Cycle eventually blossomed into North Dakota's largest motorcycle dealership. Norman began racing go-carts. This newly acquired enthusiasm led to motorcycle racing and eventually on to racing snowmobiles, where he was a state champion in both sports. Norman also organized the North Dakota State Motorcycle Dealers Association, where he served as president for 25 years. Motorcycles and snowmobiles were a major part of his life, as was his passion for hunting and fishing. He could be found at Captain Kit's Marina most summer days prior to his retirement. Norman is survived by his daughter, Nancy Tietz Cerkoney; his grandson, Britton Cerkoney; and Britton's fiancee, Stephanie Erickson. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Josie Tietz; his sister, Dorothy Kuehn; his wife, Nyla; and two sons, Terry Tietz and Brad Tietz.
