Description	:	Norman George Gerdeman, 68, Apache Junction, Ariz., died late Saturday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Phoenix. He had been in failing health the past six weeks. Born Nov. 9, 1914 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Norman G. Gerdeman Sr. and Mary Ellen (Smith) Gerdeman. Mr. Gerdeman, a former professional baseball player and manager, was a 1935 graduate of Allegany High School where he participated in three sports — football, basketball and baseball. Read More	Norman George Gerdeman, 68, Apache Junction, Ariz., died late Saturday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Phoenix. He had been in failing health the past six weeks. Born Nov. 9, 1914 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Norman G. Gerdeman Sr. and Mary Ellen (Smith) Gerdeman. Mr. Gerdeman, a former professional baseball player and manager, was a 1935 graduate of Allegany High School where he participated in three sports — football, basketball and baseball. He was the shortstop on the Fort Cumberland Post 13 team that won the national American Legion junior baseball championship in 1934 at Chicago. He also played football at Furman University and was a pioneer manager in the Cumberland Dapper Dan Little League. He also helped to organize the Hot Stove League here. After his active days as a player, Mr. Gerdeman served for a number of years as visitors’ clubhouse manager for the Houston Colt 45s and later the Astros in the National League. He retired less than a year ago as a blackjack dealer in the Nevada gambling casinos. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Seabees in the South Pacific. He was a member of Apache Junction Post 27, American Legion. Mr. Gerdeman is survived by his widow, Evelyn (Anderson) Gerdeman; a sister, Mrs. John Wheeler, Appleton, Wisc., and two nieces. A requiem mass will be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Somerville, Graydon Dunlap, Norman Goldblatt, James Wilt, Raymond Swach, and Suter Kegg. Mr. Gerdeman and his wife sponsored a total of 30 celebrity golf tournaments in the Far West and Mexico. Some of the major league baseball players who participated in those tournaments will be honorary pallbearers. They are Joe Black, Dave Duncan, Willie Mays, Brooks Robinson, and Harvey Kuenn. Bob Hunter, Los Angeles sportswriter, is also on the honorary list, as are Paul Galien, John Yeager, George Geatz, George Kraft, Herman Koegel and Norman Suter Miller.
