Description	:	Norman J. Holien, 85, of Grand Forks, ND, died Monday, October 23, 2006 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks. Norman J. Holien was born the son of Clifford and Vera (Smith) Holien in Minnesota, on January 21, 1921. He graduated from Cando, ND High School in 1938 and went on to attend Stanford University, Stanford, CA. Weber, April 25, 1946 in Calio, ND. They raised their 8... Read More	Norman J. Holien, 85, of Grand Forks, ND, died Monday, October 23, 2006 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks. Norman J. Holien was born the son of Clifford and Vera (Smith) Holien in Minnesota, on January 21, 1921. He graduated from Cando, ND High School in 1938 and went on to attend Stanford University, Stanford, CA. He was called into the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Cando where he owned and operated Cando Paint and Glass - Holien Decorating. He married Marian C. Weber, April 25, 1946 in Calio, ND. They raised their 8 children in Cando. He was active in the American Legion, as a past commander, Knights of Columbus and Elks. He managed and coached American Legion Hockey and youth baseball teams for years. He was a member in the Sacred Heart Parish, Cando where he was a religious-ed teacher and Eucharistic minister. In 1987, Norman and Marian moved to Grand Forks to be closer to their family. Marian preceded him in death on January 21, 2003. He is survived by sons, John (Karen), Las Vegas, NV, Ben (Barb), Grand Forks, ND, Conrad, Fargo, ND; daughters, Norma Holien, Fargo, ND, Bernie (George) Lies, Fargo, ND, Ramona (Ron) Germain, Erskine, ND, Germaine (Arthur) Aguilera, Firestone, CO; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Cliff, Cando, ND; sisters, Ramona Welch, Phoenix, AZ and Dovie Iverson, Valley City, ND; sister-in law, Gerry (Mrs. Harold) Holien, Cando, ND. We want to give our heartfelt thanks to the loving and caring staff of the 200 unit at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Michael; his parents; brothers, Harold, Bernard and William; a sister, Patty Baker. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2006 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service Gregory J. Norman – Norman Funeral Home, S. Washington St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the liturgy at the church on Friday. Military Honors: Members of the American Legion, Hal Parker Post 79, Cando, ND. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cando, ND, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006.
