He was raised in the Sioux Falls area where he attended Washington High School. Norman married Mary LaVonne Larsen on June 10, 1943 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. He then moved to his current home in 1945 where he has continued to farm for the past 57 years. Norman was a charter member of the Split Rock Volunteer Fire Department, charter member of the Dakota Harness Club, charter member of St. Lambert's Parish, 4-H Leader, member of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Posse, life member of the Minnehaha County Historical Society, original member of the Sioux Valley Milk Co-op and active in the O'Gorman tuition assistance program. Norman is survived by his wife, LaVonne; three sons, Robert (Caroline) of Mound City, South Dakota; Ted (Mary) of New Albany, Indiana; Bill of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Norman was preceded in death by one child, Carroll Mary; his parents; four sisters; and three brothers. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at St. Lambert Catholic Church following the committal service.
