Link, 84, of Manor Care, formerly of Sunset Park Place, and longtime resident of Balltown, Iowa, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown, with the Rev. Ray Burkle officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m. He was born on March 25, 1924, in Balltown, son of Edward and Avalona (Stillmunkes) Link. He married JoAnn Lucas on May 3, 1948, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Norman and JoAnn farmed for many years in Balltown. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown, where he was active with the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus, the Beef and Pork Producers Association and the Sherrill Fire Department. Norman enjoyed playing euchre at Breitbach's and will be remembered for his sense of humor. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn, of Dubuque; six children, Paul Link and Joyce (Bill) Markus, both of Dubuque Steve (Carol) Link, of Elgin, Iowa, Dan (Sharon) Link, of Balltown, Iowa, Donna (Randy) Backes, of Dubuque, and Ruth (Rick) Freiburger, of Rickardsville, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Jeff (Melissa) Link and Jodi McGlashing, Brian (Michelle) Markus and Julie (Matt) Wilson, Andy, Dennis and Stephanie Link, Carrie (Chad) Gotto and Kelly, Matthew and Jonathan Link, Torey and Tanner Backes and Travis, Trevor and Taylor Freiburger; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert (Lucille) Link; two sisters, Armella Meyer and Lou (Lavern) Pape; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Link, all of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lavern Link; and a brother-in-law, Emil Meyer.
