He had been with is daughter, Mrs. Matie Hethinger at Gordon, Nebraska, the past summer. Norman Pratt Mayhew was born in Washington County, Ohio, March 5, 1852, later the family moved to Kewanee, Illinois, where they resided until moving to Sciola in 1868 to the farm now occupied by Maurice Johnson and family, where they were engaged in farming. He ws married to Clara Maxwell on November 30, 1876. To this union were born four sons and three daughters, three of whom survive. The are Myron of Valentine, Max of Cody, and Matie Hethinger of Gordon. Other survivors are 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, three brothers, Cassius Clay, Waldo Putman and Judson Parker Mayhew, all of the Villisca vicinity, and one sister, Mrs. Lill M. Damuth of Los Angeles, California. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Cody, conducted by Rev. Johnson of Gordon. Music was furnished by friends and pall bearers were friends in Cody. Burial was in the Cody Cemetery by his wife, who preceded him in January 1912. Mr. Mayhew and his family moved to Nebraska in 1910, where he had resided ever since. He visited his relatives and friends here in October, 1940, the first time after moving to Nebraska. A wide circle of neighbors and friends of this community extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Mayhew and Tim Erickson left last Wednesday afternoon for Cody to attend the funeral services and be with the relatives for a few days.
