Description	:	Norman Rufus Elliott, 75, passed away Nov. 10, 1978, at a Waterville hospital after a lingering illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1903, the son of John and Amy (Danforth) Elliott. He attended Freedom Elementary School and Lynn, Mass., High School. He married Edna Upham on Nov. 24, 1928. He was secretary and treasurer of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association for about four years. Read More	Norman Rufus Elliott, 75, passed away Nov. 10, 1978, at a Waterville hospital after a lingering illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1903, the son of John and Amy (Danforth) Elliott. He attended Freedom Elementary School and Lynn, Mass., High School. He married Edna Upham on Nov. 24, 1928. He was secretary and treasurer of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association for about four years. After retirement, Mr. Elliott became busy with genealogy research and cataloguing cemeteries in Waldo County. He also compiled alphabetically a list of the census records of some of the towns in Waldo County which are available to the public at the Research Rooms in August. He made over 30,000 index cards of tombstones in this area; and his family wants it known his record are still available to anyone interested in information concerning their ancestors. He also helped organize the Freedom Fire Department as one of its founders. He was on the Executive Board of directors of the Freedom Academy from 1947 to 1958 and designed the second building for the high school. He also designed the plant for the Monmouth Canning Co., where he managed for 37 years. He is survived by his wife, Edna Elliott of Freedom; four sons, James F. of Olympus, Wash., David U. of Fairhaven, New York, Dale R. of Newton, Mass. Sgt. 1st Class Thomas E. Elliott, U.S. Army, Fort Myer, Va.; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends may call at the Coombs Funeral Home, Belfast, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 1978. Funeral services will be held that the Freedom Congregational Church Tuesday, Nov. 14, 3 p.m., with George Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Freedom.
