Description	:	Chelan, Jan 10 - Norman T. Higgins, 86, of Chelan, died at his home early this morning after a long illness. He was born at Higginsmill, New York, August 27, 1862, and at the age of five traveled with his parents in a covered wagon to Colorado. Mr. Higgins followed the contracting trade for 11 years, building many schools in Colorado. He was married to Ida Dillie Dec. 9, 1891, at Ellendale, North Dakota, and they moved to the Willamette valley, where he operated a planning mill for 8 years. He was born at Higginsmill, New York, August 27, 1862, and at the age of five traveled with his parents in a covered wagon to Colorado. Mr. Higgins followed the contracting trade for 11 years, building many schools in Colorado. He was married to Ida Dillie Dec. 9, 1891, at Ellendale, North Dakota, and they moved to the Willamette valley, where he operated a planning mill for 8 years. In 1902 they came to Chelan to operate the first planning mill and cabinet ship in the area. He bought and operated the first motor passenger stage from the Columbia River boat landing to Chelan in 1913, which carried 23 passengers and mail. Mrs. Higgins purchased the first auto sales and service in Chelan, which he operated until his retirement in 1922. After he retired he took up radio work as a hobby and later opened a radio shop, which he ran until a few years ago. Surviving are his wife and one son, Harry of Lewiston.
