She transitioned to the arms of Jesus and was joyously greeted in Glory by her beloved husband, Dean. Jean was born on November 05, 1935 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS, the youngest child and only daughter of Amandus P. and Lavina (Balmer) Hartzler of Wichita, KS. She was raised in rural Wichita with her two older brothers, Sanford and Marvin. She grew up on a dairy farm following the Great Depression, where she learned the importance of work. Her family heritage was German Mennonite, and this instilled in her a love of God and a deep desire to follow His teaching. It was this upbringing from where she learned her frugal, practical, straightforward ways and her service ethic that manifested through her life. She lived a purpose filled life and was always seeking to be engaged in meaningful activity and service, typically done behind the scenes. God gifted her with a humble yet strong spirit and a quiet wisdom, a love for learning and lifelong desire to serve. This drove her to seek education beyond High School and she worked hard to put herself through Friend's University and Wesley Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in nursing, BSN, in 1956 following in her mother's footsteps, who was also an RN. It was through her nursing work at Wesley, that she met the love of her life, Dean Stucky, MD who was completing his residency and they married on June 16, 1962. They settled in Medicine Lodge, KS where Jean continued her nursing career at ML Memorial Hospital, often working side by side with Dean. Jean had many interests and remained involved and busy throughout her retirement years. She loved caring for her grandchildren who lived in Medicine Lodge and loved attending their many activities. She was a seamstress when younger and transitioned to quilting in retirement years, making many beautiful quilts. And most of all, she was a faithful companion to her husband and they shared numerous activities together, including gardening, canning vegetables, making homemade pickles and German sauerkraut in large crocks that they loved to share with their family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge, KS. She had a strong faith in God and a desire for others to know the Lord as their Savior and never missed a chance to share a Bible verse with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong learner of God's Word and she had several Bibles full of her handwritten notes and highlights. She had a practice of studying daily and maintained this desire until she was taken to her Heavenly home. Above all else, Jean loved and was dedicated to her family. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother. She married Dean in 1962 and remained devoted to him her entire earthly life. To this union, three children were born, and 7 beloved grandchildren. Jean is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, her mother and father, and her brothers and sisters in law, Marvin (Bobbi) Hartzler and Sanford (Ava) Hartzler. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from Noon to 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Paul Stephens officiating. A private family burial service will be at Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS
