Description	:	Mrs. Oakley Smith Gibson Stokesdale- Mrs. Oakley Smith Gibson, 89, went home to be with Jesus Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, TX. A 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Ellisboro Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Tillman and Reverend Roy Little officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stokesdale. A Rockingham County native, Oakley was born February 23, 1926, the daughter of Edd Smith and Rilla Pyrtle Smith. She joined Ellisboro Baptist Church in 1942, where she attended faithfully and formerly served as a Sunday School teacher. Oakley was an active member of the choir, singing for her final service on Mother’s Day, 2015. She loved each and every member of her church. She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and great- grandmother and will be truly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents, Oakley was preceded in death by, her 1st husband, Linwood Walker; 2nd husband Jessie Gibson; son, Phillip Walker; three sisters, Otelia S. Overby, Othelia Smith, and Obelia S. Marshall; three brothers, Oranda Smith, Otha Lewis Smith, and Omar Gray Smith. Oakley is survived by three children, Lester Walker and wife Becky of Stoneville, Doris Light of the home and Timothy Walker and special friend, Jains McCullum, of Stokesdale; brother, O.R. Smith and wife Judy of Burlington; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and other times at the home of Timothy Walker in Stokesdale. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be sent to, ALS Association Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter, 4 North Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601 or Hospice of Rockingham County, P. O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375. Ray Funeral Home in Madison is serving the Gibson family.
