Spindler, celebrated his 90th. birthday. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. Himmelman, he was twice married; his first wife being Miss Page, of Pentz, and they had one son, Norman of Riverport. Of his second marriage to Mrs. Melinda Corkum, Lake Centre, there were four sons: Foster of Bridgewater, who suffered wounds in the First Great War; Ernest, killed in the Battle of Lens in 1918; Hastings, drowned in the gale of August, 1925; and Abner, living in Worcester, Mass.; also two daughters, Agnes, Mrs. C. Wamboldt, West Dublin; and one who died in infancy. Most of his life has been spent fishing on the Banks earlier and later shore fishing. He has enjoyed excellent health, and up to very recent years, never had service of a doctor. However, his sight is now poor. At Bell's Island he was prominent in the Methodist Church, having served long as an usher. Obadiah Himmelman, one of the oldest residents of the LaHave Islands, died at the Dawson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 25. For the past year he has been totally blind. On Wednesday night he fell from his bed, breaking his arm and sustaining a great shock. He was brought to the hospital on Saturday. Born at Bell's Island 91 years ago, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Himmelman, pioneer settlers of the LaHave Islands, who came from LaHave and settled on Himmelman's Island, one of the group of LaHave Islands now untenanted. He was married twice. His first wife was Miss Eliza Page of Mount Pleasant. They had one son, Norman Himmelman of Lower LaHave. His second wife was Mrs. Melinda Corkum of New Cumberland, who died 21 years ago. From this marriage there were six children- Agnes, Mrs. Clarence Wamboldt, Dublin Shore; Abner, Worcester, Mass.; Hastings, who was drowned off Sable Island in the August gale of 1926; Ernest, who was killed in the battle of Vimy Ridge in the First World War; Foster, Bridgewater; and a daughter who died in infancy. Allison Corkum, Bridgewater, was a son of his last wife by a former marriage and lived at the Himmelman home. There are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Starting when a young lad he followed the sea for many years. He was a member of the United Church. Funeral arrangements have not been made, pending word from his son in the United States.
