Mrs. Ham was born in Putnam county, Illinois, on April 28, 1856, and at the time of her death was 64 years, 10 months and 23 days of age. Her maiden name was Oella Byers. In the fall of 1880 she came with the other members of her family to Black Hawk county, Iowa, and grew to womanhood there. In 1879 she was united in marriage with H.F. Ham. They continued their resident in Black Hawk county for some time and then moved to Nebraska, where they lived only a short time. They lived successfully at Nora Springs, Charles City and Spencer, coming to this city in 1913 and established the present family home on East Park avenue. Besides her husband, Mrs. Ham is survived by two daughters, Mrs. I.W. Lukens and Miss Calia, both of Spencer. She was the eldest of a family of seven children, all her sisters and brothers living. They are: Mrs. Eva Huntington of Big Lake, Minnesota and Mrs. Erma Hilton of Jessup, Iowa. The four brothers are Wm. A Byers of Salt Lake, Utah; R.E. of Gresham, Nebraska; George of Waterloo and John of Spencer. Mrs. Ham was a faithful member of the Congregational church. She united with the church at an early age and kept her faith throughout her life. Her failing health of late years kept her from attending church services as often or as faithful as she wished. Funeral services were conducted from the home on Tuesday morning interment was made at Riverside cemetery. Among the relatives from away in attendance at the funeral services were James Cook and Bert Ham, both of Independence, Iowa, and J.L. Byers of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the latter a nephew of the deceased. The News Herald, Spencer, Clay County, Iowa; February 26, 1920.
