Born August 22, 1913 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Lester Simpson and Hettie Jane Almond Simpson and was a homemaker. Mrs. Russell was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, quilting and basket weaving and she was an excellent cook. Mrs. Russell loved people. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband John Gaddy Russell on January 13, 1985. She is survived by three daughters, Ola Mae Russell Matthews and husband Vann of Mint Hill, Hettie Ruth Russell of Albemarle, and Linda Gail Russell MacDonald of Albemarle, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two granddaughters and by brothers Coy A. Simpson and A. Ray Simpson and sister Ruby Simpson Swaringen. The family requests that memorials be made to Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 24361 S. Bus. 52, Albemarle, NC 28001, Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001 or to the Care Café, PO Box 1022, Albemarle, NC 28002.
