Description	:	Mr. O.E. Ladd, a pioneer citizen of Greenwood county, died at his home in Eureka, Friday, September 8, at 2:30 p.m. after a long illness. Mr. Ladd has been here since 1860 and has seen this county develope from a land inhabited by Indians and buffaloes to its present high state of civilization. His last years were of instruction, being years of illness in which the Lord taught him the art of patience and drew him nearer to Him by the cords of love. Ladd, a pioneer citizen of Greenwood county, died at his home in Eureka, Friday, September 8, at 2:30 p.m. after a long illness. Mr. Ladd has been here since 1860 and has seen this county develope from a land inhabited by Indians and buffaloes to its present high state of civilization. His last years were of instruction, being years of illness in which the Lord taught him the art of patience and drew him nearer to Him by the cords of love. During these years the immediate family proved faithful, loving and patient and may the lips now silent bear witness on the great reunion day, when together with his family they shall sing praises unto Him who is always love. Ole Errickson, son of Erick and Karen Ladd, was born in Hafslo, Norway, Nov. 15, 1839. Of a family of nine children he was next to the youngest and next to the last to pass away. Only one aged sister in Wisconsin, whom he visited last winter remains to mourn with us today. Mr. Ladd braved the Atlantic for the new world at the early age of twelve years, coming to Wisconsin, where he remained for several years. From there he went to Kansas City, and remained until in 1858, when, with a party of three or four, he came to Kansas. Returning later to Kansas City, he married Miss Ceclia Errickson March 13, 1860, and again came to Kansas where, in and near Eureka they have since resided. Twelve children were born to this union, of whom seven remain with the mother to mourn the loss of a good husband and a kind and loving father. Funeral services were held at the residence on Third street Sunday, September 10th, where a prelimary service was first held by the Odd Fellows Lodge of Eureka, of which Brother Ladd was a member for many years, after which the services were conducted in Norwegian and English by Rev. H.H. Hanson. Four members from the English Lutheran church rendered several selections very appropriate for the occasion with Mrs. W.H. Barger as pianist.
