He was united in marriage to Miss Midge Kibbe, September 14, 1927, and to this happy union there came, just eight weeks ago, a dear baby boy, Vaughn Elbert. He departed this life December 1, 1933, at the age of 30 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Midge Kibbe, September 14, 1927, and to this happy union there came, just eight weeks ago, a dear baby boy, Vaughn Elbert. Elbert received his common school education in the Pleasant Prairie rural school, and his high school training in the Randall Rural High School. It was during his high school training that he displayed his remarkable character. He was a genuine student, graduating with the highest scholastic honors besides numerous honors in music and athletics. He was one of the outstanding athletics of the county, being admired over the county not only for his physicl ability but his true sportsmanship as well. After completing his high school course he taught three successful terms of school in the Randall grade school where he imparted to his students the sterling quality of a noble character. For two terms he taught at the Prairie Flower rural school and carried on his work on the farm with his parents. During his five years of teaching, he completed one year's work at the Fort Hays State College. Since his marriage, he and his devoted wife established their present home where only harmony and happiness have reigned. He leaves to mourn his departure, his loving wife, Mrs. Midge Flinn, and infant son, Vaughn Elbert, his mother, Mrs. Maud Flinn, three brothers, Lloyd and Virgil of Randall, Kansas, and Henry of Jewell, Kansas, two sisters, Mrs. Nora Mahin of Randall, Kansas and Mrs. Sylvia Redmond of BellFlower, California, and a host of other relatives and friends. The most distinctive characteristic of the deceased was his kindliness and generousity to others. He was a loving husband, a real home builder, always cheerful and willing to help wherever needed. He was always kind and thoughtful of his wife and mother, and it was with the most tender affection that he cared for his infant son whom he was with for such a short time. Every effort possibly by medical skill and care of loving relatives was rendered, but to no avail, and as was part of God's great plan he was taken to his Heavenly reward. It is hard to understand just why one should be taken from a home that needed him so much, or from a mother who depended so greatly upon him, or from a community in which he had so endeared himself and was such a worthy member, but such was the will of the great Creator, and all things worketh for the best according, so let us place our faith in this all wise Father. A brief service was held at the home on Sunday afternoon, followed by a service in the Community church at Pleasant Prairie by the Rev. Honderick of Beloit. Amid a bank of beautiful flowers he was laid to rest in the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery. (Note: His remains were later removed to the Randall Cemetery and reinterred)
