Rev. K. G. Hatlen, pastor, will officiate. Sioux Rapids residents and descendents are expected to crowd the church for the funeral services. It is probable that grandsons of the centenarian will serve as bearers, but as this paper went to press it had not been determined. Interment will be in the Lone Tree cemetery. Death Not Unexpected Death of the nonogenarian occurred about 7 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Hanna Voss. His passing was not unexpected. He had been stricken ill for the first time in his long career with a heart ailment a fortnight ago. Last Thursday he lapsed into a coma from which he did not awaken. Didn't Look Age Mr. Johnson belied his age with remarkable activity. Until recently he made trips to Sioux Rapids to take care of business in connection with the two Clay county farms he owned. Until his lost illness. he had made few trips to the doctor's office. The last was 20 years ago when he fell from a load of hay and was hurt slightly. He made his first visit to a dentist when he was 92 years old and had his first tooth pulled then. It was his last call on a dentist. Until two years ago he read the dally newspapers. but falling eyesight recently left him so he could read only the headlines. An optometrist advised him against wearing glasses because of the strain they would place on his eyes. Until recently, too, he walked about the farm without the use of a cane. Time went slowly for him and the the occasions he looked forward to most were Christmas and his birthday. In fact he planned so much for them that they were often observed from a day to a week in advance. He liked to smoke a pipe and used the same brand of tobacco for the last 53 years. Mr. Johnson lived in Norway until he was 49 when he came to this country. He maintained his interest in the country of his birth and was upset considerably by the recent invasion of Norway by the nazis. Survivors Surviving Mr. Johnson are six daughters. Mrs. Emma Olson of Cornell, Mrs. Voss, Mrs. Mary Haarom, and Mrs. Bertha Soretison. all of Sioux Rapids: Mrs. Sara Cook of Niobrara. Neb., and Mrs. Wallace Knutdson of near Havelock. Another daughter. Mrs. Julia Swanson, died several years ago. There are 23 grandchildren. 51 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Great-Great-Grandchild The great-great-grandchild is Diane Marie Gorten. 1 1/2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gorten of Flint. Mich. Mr. Johnson's age was a certainty. Several years ago a Lutheran pastor here wrote to Mr. Johnson's birthplace in Norway and received a baptismal certificate.
