Read More	Georgetown Times June 22 1923 Fatally Crushed Under Truck Wheel In attempting to get on a moving truck Wednesday noon of this week Olin Altman lost his footing and fell beneath the rear wheel and was fatally crushed medical aid was summoned at once but the young man died a few hours after being injured. His body was badly crushed the lungs sustained the direct weight of the truck wheel. He remained conscious up to last. The truck was moving Westward on Front Street when he attempted to get on it for the purpose of going out to his home, which is some distance from town. The driver purposely slowing down when he saw young Altman approaching but did not know he had fallen until he felt the jolt of the truck when it passed over the lad’s body. ‘ After the accident Olin was carried to his sister’s home on Duke Street and died there at twenty minutes of six that afternoon. Olin Altman was nineteen years of age and a son of Mr and Mrs Martin L Altman who live some two miles from the city on the Black River Road. He was a member of the Duncan Memorial Church and a graduate of the Winyah High School Class of 1921. He was also a member of Company D Georgetown Light Artillery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev Mr Beckham. Interment was held at Elmwood Cemetery with military honours to which place the flag draped casket was escorted by the Georgetown Artillery. The body was lowered into the grave as “Taps” was sounded. The floral offerings were many and beautiful the entire town grieving in sympathy with the stricken parents and family of the young man. The active pall bearers were BH Schooler, Herman Rouse, EN Watts, JS Pyatt Jr, Herbert Rouse and JP LaBruce.
