Obituary: Olin Russell Reasoner, son of Floyd Reasoner and Gladys (Long) Reasoner was born August 1, 1925 near Hopeville, Iowa and passed from this life January 2, 2010 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa at 84 years of age. Olin grew up around the Hopeville area. At age 18, he was attending Thayer Consolidated High School when he was drafted and served in the US Army during WWII. He was presented the Purple Heart Ribbon and Medal for wounds received in action, Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Ribbon and Medal, American Campaign Medal, Prisoner of War Ribbon and Medal for 1944 Rhineland and Ardennes Battles. After the war, he started farming and retired from farming March 14, 2003 at age 78. He was united in marriage to LaViece Emma Chew Fletcher on January 14, 1967. LaViece passed away on March 9, 2002; they were married for 35 years. Olin's greatest passion was farming, but he loved every chance he had spending time with family. Olin was a member of William-Lochrie Post #405 American Legion in Murray, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the USA Post #8882 in Afton, life member of AM VETS in Osceola, life member of American Ex Prisoners of War, life member of Disabled American Veterans in Des Moines, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1398 in Creston. Those relatives who preceded Olin in death were his parents; wife, LaViece; and brothers, Bob Reasoner and Dale Reasoner. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Barbara Updike and husband Troy of Murray; grandchildren, Tina (Scott) Dougherty of Bentonville, AR, Brian (Shari) Updike of Bella Vista, AR; great grandchildren, Kylar & Payton Dougherty of Bentonville, AR and Brice and Brady Updike of Bella Vista, AR; brothers, Keith (Donna) Reasoner of Hamilton, VA, John Reasoner of Sheridon, WY, Don (Deloris) Reasoner of Osceola; sister, Avis James of Osceola; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Visitation will open at noon on Thursday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Family will be present to greet friends 6:00-8:00 Thursday evening. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Hopeville United Methodist Church.
