She was raised on her parent's farm in Jackson Township of Boone Co., Iowa. Olive married Roy Mann on August 11, 1906 in Des Moines, Iowa, and they lived on worked her parents farm. Olive was the mother of two children; Vincent and Richard Mann. Vincent was born in 1908 and Richard was born in 1915. Olive was divorced from Roy Mann prior to August of 1916 when the tragedy occurred. On 15 August 1916, in a jealous quarrel, Roy fatally wounded Olive and then committed suicide. Vincent was 8 years old and Richard was just over a year old. Vincent and Richard were raised by Olive's parents.
