She was a loving mother, devoted friend, and a previous long-time resident of Big Timber. She will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched. Olive was born on July 24, 1934, in Bozeman to Lawrence Landoll and Mabel (Landoll) Simmons. Olive graduated from Mt. Ellis Academy in Bozeman and attended Billings Business College. Prior to her retirement in 1996, Olive worked for the Sweet Grass County welfare system for nearly 28 years. She is best known by her desire to help the underprivileged and under-served. For many years she spearheaded the effort to ensure families had food items necessary for their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and also less fortunate children had presents to open on Christmas Day. These good deeds were accomplished through a tremendous fundraising effort, make successful through the generosity of Sweet Grass County residents. Olive had a special place in her heart for the elderly. She delivered holiday meals to those without families and Meals-on-Wheels for a local care program. She regularly transported the elderly to medical appointments and on grocery shopping trips. She also spent many of her lunch hours playing "pitch" with her friends who could no longer easily leave their homes. As a young woman she loved and cared for her grandmother, Carrie Groom, and later in life loved and cared for her mother until placement at the Pioneer Medical Center was necessary. Olived did not care much about material things. She had a green thumb, maintained a modest lifestyle, loved to read, and was known to be a good cook. Her main interest in life was her family and those dear friends she considered to be her extended family. Olived loved to laugh and loved a good, clean joke. She was a good, Christian mother who unselfishly gave of herself to her family. In September 2000, Olive moved to Anchorage to live with her daughter and son-in-law. While in Alaska, her family visited regularly and Olive continued to raise flowers and plant trees and kept in contact with her family and friends in the "Lower 48". She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Schildof Ohio; brother, Rudolph (Sonny) Hauge of California; son, James Malatare, daughter-in-law Cathi and their children of Great Falls; daughter, Rhonda McLeod and son-in-law, David Stranger of Anchorage; son, Kurtis McLeod and daughter-in-law Rosie and their children of Moore, Oklahoma; and numerous friends and acquaintances.
