(Newquist) Samuelson, daughter of Federick and Alice Swanson Newquist, was born March 6, 1901 in Page County, Iowa, rural, Essex, Iowa. She was baptized on April 21, 1901 and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church on August 5, 1919. She graduated from Essex High School in 1919. She was employed by Dr’s Kinney and McMaster for two years. Later she clerked for Hall & Hagg General Store for 6 years, then clerked for Hagg & Samuelson for 18 years. On July 12, 1927, Olive was united in marriage to Elmer J. Samuelson. They made their home in Essex and to this union two sons, Charles Frederick and Robert Max were born. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a member of Ruth Circle and Welca and was a life long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, two brothers, and her husband, Elver on June 26, 1977. She is survived by her two sos, Fred Samuelson and wife Colleen of Essex, Robert Samuelson and wife Jacky of Clarinda; four grandchildren, Joey Samuelson and wife Amy, Shari and husband Chris Bradfield, Robert L. Samuelson and wife Bridgette, Tony Samuelson and wife Angie; eight great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
