She was one of a large family, all of whom survive except herself and a brother John who with their parents have passed to the Great Beyond. CRAIG Olive Mariah Evans, daughter of Philip and Judy Jane Evans, was born at Pittsburg, Iowa, May 12, 1851, and departed this life at the Fairfield hospital at 7 o'clock, the evening of September 3, 1923, aged 72 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was one of a large family, all of whom survive except herself and a brother John who with their parents have passed to the Great Beyond. She was married to John Craig October 13, 1868, near Kilbourne, Iowa. Here she spent all of her life except a few years in Kansas. To this union were born nine children, Phoebe, Mrs. Susie Bish of Keosauqua, Iowa; Mrs. Grant Ruby of Winchester, Iowa; Mrs. Craig Ruby of Kilbourne; Evans of near Keosauqua; Mrs. Dillie Maxwell, near Kilbourne; Mrs. Linnie Morrison, Mrs. Addie Stoops and Jay of near Kilbourne. Phoebe and Linnie preceded their mother in death. She had twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of the M.E. church at Kilbourne, also of the Ladies' Aid. It can truly be said of her "She went about doing good." She was a great Bible reader and was never happier than when talking to some congenial person on Bible themes. She was a devoted wife and mother, a loving sister and kind neighbor. Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her departure many relatives and friends who will miss her kindly ministrations and who deeply sympathize with the children and aged companion in their bereavement. Verily, a good woman has gone to her reward. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church at 2 o'clock, September 5, conducted by Mrs. B.H. Morse. Interment was in the cemetery at Pittsburg, Iowa. She was borne to her last resting place by her nephews. Marguerite Piper and Rachel Gilbert acted as flower girls. C.P. Barker and wife, Bertha Gilbert, Gladys Jamison, Julia Lyons and Clayton Sherod sang several of her favorite hymns. Mrs. Morse chose her text (remainder missing) . . . . . Source: Van Buren Co.
