Description	:	VETERAN EUREKA ARCHITECT DIES Death claimed 80-year-old Oliver Newton Ackerman of 926 Tenth Street, Thursday. A former architect, his work stands in many places in northern California. Ackerman was born in Petaluma and came to Eureka 50 years ago. He first became a partner in the firm of Jacobs, Ackerman and Crozier, and when that dissolved he and George C. Jacobs formed the firm of Jacobs and Ackerman. Ackerman was born in Petaluma and came to Eureka 50 years ago. He first became a partner in the firm of Jacobs, Ackerman and Crozier, and when that dissolved he and George C. Jacobs formed the firm of Jacobs and Ackerman. Among the buildings he designed are the Humboldt County Community Hospital, the tuberculosis hospital, and the Veterans Memorial buildings in Eureka, Arcata and Fortuna. He also designed St. Joseph's hospital in Orange and St. Luke's hospital in Altadena, many schools in Humboldt county and a number of schools and apartment buildings in Oakland. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ivy Ackerman, and a son, Arthur R. Ackerman, both of Eureka, and a brother, George Ackerman, of San Francisco. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Pierce Mortuary under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. Burial will be in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
