Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Olivia (Helm) Nigrin was born April 11, 1921, in John’s Lake Township in Sheridan County. She was the third of 10 children born to Adolph and Lydia (Schaeffer) Helm. On June 1, 1938, Olivia married John E. Nigrin. She and John farmed together on the Nigrin farm, south of McClusky and raised their family there. Olivia continued to live on the farm even after her husband’s death in 1975, ultimately spending over 50 years at their homestead before moving to McClusky in 2000. She loved to garden, make quilts, crochet and do crafts. Blessed to have shared her life and love are daughter, Ardith Froehlich and her husband Charles, Carriere, Miss.; her daughter-in-law, Myrna Nigrin, Regan; four sisters, Alvina Krueger and Elaine Neff, both of McClusky, and Laverna Knapp and Pat Schmitcke, both of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Lynn (Jeff) Standifer, Franklin, Tenn., Leslee Froehlich, Austin, Texas, Anita Nigrin, Dallas, Denise (Lowell) Beattie, Lincoln, and Tammy (Kevin) Ripplinger, Watertown, S.D.; seven great-grandchildren, Tonya, Cole and Trevor Ripplinger, Nichole Nigrin, Matthew and Zackary Beattie and Chase Standifer, Second Lieutenant U.S. Army; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be made in honor of Olivia’s life to either St. John’s Lutheran Church in McClusky or Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky.
