Description	:	Oltman Van Langen and Engelina Holtcamp were born in Ostfriesland, Germany. Oltman was born on November 22, 1843 and Engelina was born on January 10, 1846. They were both reared and educated in German and became engaged to be married while in their homeland. At the age of about 24 Oltman left Germany to come to America. He settled at Mt. Morris, Illinois and worked on a farm there for one year. He then sent Engelina enough money so she could follow him to their new home. Oltman was born on November 22, 1843 and Engelina was born on January 10, 1846. They were both reared and educated in German and became engaged to be married while in their homeland. At the age of about 24 Oltman left Germany to come to America. He settled at Mt. Morris, Illinois and worked on a farm there for one year. He then sent Engelina enough money so she could follow him to their new home. Oltman and Engelina were united in marriage during the year of 1869 at Mt. Morris, Illinois. While in Illinois, both Tempka, March 28, 1870 and Tom, October 23, 1872 were born. The family moved by covered wagon to Kansas in the spring of the year while Tom was yet an infant. In Manhattan, Kansas they homesteaded and built a house. During the winter, on December 10, 1873, Jennie was born. Jennie wasn't a year old when the dry weather forced them to sell their home and return to Illinois. On their return trip to Illinois they passed through Iowa, where Oltman met an old friend who persuaded him to stay in Iowa. The family then rented a farm in Grundy County where 5 children were born to the family. Benjamin on December 6, 1875 John on December 17, 1877 Lena on January 16, 1880 Henry on December 16, 1882 Lewis on March 24, 1884 In the same year Lewis was born, 1884, they moved to Hamilton County and settled on a farm in Liberty Township. While on this farm, Mattie was born on June 10, 1886 and Oltman was born on July 11, 1889. The family was now complete with the 10 children. Oleman and Engelina later moved into the town of Kamrar where Oltman died on April 26, 1926 and Engelina on May 17, 1927. Oltman & Engelina were both laid to rest in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery east of Kamrar, Iowa. This information came from the Oltman Van Langen Family 1843-1979 book.
