Description	:	Ommund B. Strand passed away peacefully on August 3, 2004, surrounded by his family. Ommund was born January 26, 1922 in Big Timber to Albert O. and Elsie (Berg) Strand. He completed his first eight years of school at Cherry Creek School and graduated from Shawmut High School in 1941. Strand passed away peacefully on August 3, 2004, surrounded by his family. Ommund was born January 26, 1922 in Big Timber to Albert O. and Elsie (Berg) Strand. He completed his first eight years of school at Cherry Creek School and graduated from Shawmut High School in 1941. Duty called him to serve in the U.S. Air Force and in the European theater 1943-1946. Ommund graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1949. Ommund married Lutie Weedman Murray in 1951. The love and devotion expressed in their marriage of over 50 years was an inspiration to their children and all who knew them. Lutie passed away in 2002. Ommund spent most of his career with AT&T, first with Mountain Bell in Helena then with Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey and Illinois. When he and Lutie retired in 1987, they returned to their roots in Montana, settling in Big Timber. Ommund was preceded in death by his wife, Lutie, and his brother, George. Survivors include his brother, Louie (Clara) Strand of Big Timber; sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Casterline of Culbertson, Doris (Dick) McDonald of Washington and June (Stan) Gunnerson of Florida; sons, Chuck Murray of California, Bill (Mary) Murray of Ontario and Jim (Betsy) Strand of California; daughter, Helen Landau of Kansas; grandchildren, Tammy and Gabby Murray of California, John Murray of Ontario, Christopher Strand of California and Dana Landau of Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ommund loved spending time with his family, playing a good game of cards (especially bridge and pinocle), caring for his garden and yard, fishing, watching sports of any kind and worshipping in his church. He was a kind and gentle man with a ready smile. Ommund will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Lowry Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and memorial services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Citizens Center in Big Timber, or the charity of your choice.
