Ona Grace Fairchild - Posted May 24, 2001 Chelan Ona Grace Fairchild, 91, a 55-year resident of Chelan, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Highline Nursing Home in East Wenatchee. She was born on July 28, 1909 at Maryville, MO. She grew up and graduated from high school in Beatrice, NE. On June 9, 1929, she married Levi L. "Lee" Fairchild in Beatrice, NE. They moved to Lincoln, NE where she was a homemaker. In 1945, they moved to Chelan where they co-owned and operated the Moose Auto Court and Grocery Store. Ona was a member of Chelan United Methodist Church. She spent many days with the women quilting, volunteered and shared her talents in the kitchen with meal preparations, receptions and mission projects. She was an avid choir member and shared a duet or two with her lifelong friend, Hattie Hughes Conklin. She belonged to a bowling league and enjoyed bowling in tournaments. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her children and grandchildren and prepared homemade bread on a weekly basis. The roses in her garden were exquisite. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jean Oaks of East Wenatchee; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Fairchild, parents, Elza and Mabel (Rock) Beasley, a daughter, Jeannette (Fairchild) Simmons, two sons-in-law, Lesley Simmons and Lyle Oaks, a grandson, Steven Simmons, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be Friday, May 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Chelan United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Azevedo officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Fraternal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
