She was born on September 30, 1916, in Moneta, Iowa, to Edwin F. and Marie G. (Straub) Strube. Shortly after her birth, the family bought a farm near Spirit Lake, Iowa, and moved there. Onalee attended and graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1934. She then enrolled in Omaha Business School in Omaha. She was an accountant and land title abstractor. On May 28, 1938, she married Byrnard "Bud" Elston and farmed on the east side of East Lake Okoboji. They had three daughters, Becky, Barbara and Debra. In 1967, they semi-retired and built a new home in Arnolds Park. They ran Orr's Campground for many years during ths time. Onalee was always interested in music and learned to play the big pipe organ in the Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church. Later she played for many church services for the Friends Church and Calvary Methodist Church, both in Arnolds Park, and the non-denominational church in Mission, Texas, where she and Bud spent many winters. Besides working in the churches, she worked at the schools playing music for contest students and also served on the Arnolds Park-Okoboji School Board. Bud passed away in June of 1993. Onalee later married George Whitfield of Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, on July 23, 1995. George passed away on August 23, 2003. Onalee is survived by her three daughters, Becky Savard, Barbara Carstens and Debra Taylor; three grandchildren, Kirt Carstens, Dana Clark and Amanda Mortenson; and two great-grandchildren, Kole anad Carly Carstens. A funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M. Friday, at Calvary Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Burial will be at the Okoboji Cemetery in Arnolds Park, Iowa. -------------
