Description	:	Opal Burch, 85, of Connersville, died Saturday, May 19th, 2007, at The Lincoln Centers, where he had been a patient for a year. He was born April 2, 1922 in New Trenton to Walter and Lillie Sandlin Burch and attended Yellow Bank School in Franklin County. Read More	Opal Burch, 85, of Connersville, died Saturday, May 19th, 2007, at The Lincoln Centers, where he had been a patient for a year. He was born April 2, 1922 in New Trenton to Walter and Lillie Sandlin Burch and attended Yellow Bank School in Franklin County. As a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, he served with the Eleventh Armored Division in Europe as a Private First Class Military Policeman. In recognition of his duties, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon prior to his honorable discharge July 25, 1946. On January 3 1946, he was married to the former Mildred Wilson at the First Baptist Church in Connersville. Opal was employed for 30 years at Ford Motor Company in Sharonville, OH as a major assembler. Following retirement, he worked for several years at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his joy in life. He was a member of the Connersville Baptist Temple and the Free & Accepted Masons in Metamora. Opal enjoyed nature while working in his yard and as an avid walker. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mildred; a son and his wife: Joe and Nancy Burch of Connersville; a daughter-in-law: Lettie Burch of Union, KY; his four grandchildren: Chris Burch and his wife, Lisa of Franklin, OH, Shane Burch and his wife, Michelle of Hebron, KY, Kristen Kehl and her husband, Adam, Shawn Burch, all of Connerville; his five great-grandchildren: Madison and Brayden Burch, Cole and Chad Burch, Alyshah Kehl: three sisters and brother-in-laws: Beatrice and Kenneth Brock, Beulah and Voley Witt, all of Lawrenceburg, Claudette and David Begley of Greensburg; special guys in Opal's life: David Scott, Bill Handley and Brian Kays; several nieces and nephews. His parents, a son: Ronald Burch, two sisters: Dorothy Durbin and Pearl Brown and two brothers: Oliver and Doyle Burch preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastors Eric Hopkins and Randall Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville with military graveside services conducted by the Franklin County Veterans Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Alzheimer Research or to Connersville Baptist Temple.
