Opal received Holy Baptism and confirmed her Christian faith at Quale Lutheran Church near Fordville. She attended rural public school in Cleveland Township near Fordville and the Dahlen, ND, High School. Opal married Myron Halstenson June 22, 1952 at Quale Lutheran Church. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Niagara community. Opal was employed as a United States Postal Service Clerk for 20 years. She was known for her artistic ability, decorating wedding and special occasion cakes.... She maintained close family ties to her siblings over the years. Opal was a member of Elk Valley Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA for many years. She was also a member of Sons of Norway. Opal Halstenson, age 84, of Niagara, ND, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND. Opal is survived by her husband Myron; daughter Myrna (Doug) Runyan, Grand Forks, and son John (Sherri) Halstenson, Grand Forks; 6 grandchildren: Christina Runyan, Jason (Mandy) Runyan, Mark Runyan; Jen (Alex) Starcevic; Eric Halstenson and Jill Halstenson; 1 great grandchild: Cameron Runyan; her sisters: Iverna Machart, Grand Forks; Gloria Grinter, Park River, ND; and brothers: Ingdolph Johnson, Fordville, Oliver (Lorna) Johnson, Michigan, ND and Lloyd (Margaret) Johnson, Shakopee, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother John Henry Johnson. VISITATION: Monday, March 6 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore; and will resume 1 hour before services in the church Tuesday. FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Elk Valley Lutheran Church of rural McCanna, ND. INTERMENT: Elk Valley Church Cemetery , rural McCanna. The Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore, ND is handling the arrangements.
