Description	:	Opal J. Rawson was born on September 21, 1920 to John Nyland and Mattie (Mulder) Nyland in rural Gage County Nebraska. Opal was the third of four children - Vernon Nyland, Gladys Nyland Kroese, Opal Nyland Rawson and Betty Nyland Harms. Opal grew up on the family farm which was located north of Adams, Nebraska and attended Pella Reformed Church. Opal was a bright student and graduated high school at the age of 16. Rawson was born on September 21, 1920 to John Nyland and Mattie (Mulder) Nyland in rural Gage County Nebraska. Opal was the third of four children - Vernon Nyland, Gladys Nyland Kroese, Opal Nyland Rawson and Betty Nyland Harms. Opal grew up on the family farm which was located north of Adams, Nebraska and attended Pella Reformed Church. Opal was a bright student and graduated high school at the age of 16. Following her graduation, she taught country school until her marriage to Robert C. Rawson on June 7, 1950. To this union two sons were born, Arlyn and Dale. Bob and Opal raised their family in Adams, Nebraska where they operated a grocery store for many years. Throughout her life, Opal was a woman who demonstrated a strong and unshakable faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Opal was an active member of Adams Presyterian Church. She was an accomplished piano and organ player, and she regularly provided accompaniment for church services, weddings and funerals. Opal conducted her daily life with Christ in the forefront of her thoughts. Opal loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. Fond memories of Grandma Opal will always live within her grandchildren...Grandma in the kitchen baking rolls, cookies and pies, playing the piano, sewing and crocheting, and reading the biblical story of Christ's birth on Christmas Eve (Luke 2: 1-21). Grandma was never too busy to play hide-and-seek, to play school, or to play "pioneers". (Pioneers entailed turning off all the lights in the house, and washing dishtowels and washrags by candlelight using an old washboard and bluing that she kept in the cellar.) In 1992, Bob and Opal sold their home in Adams and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where they were members of Hope Reformed Church. Opal passed away on September 16, 1998 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She will always be missed, and will always live on in the hearts and minds of her children and grandchildren. I am so proud that she was my grandmother.
