Description	:	Opal (Schrock) Kuhns was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Corvallis, Oregon and grew up there, but graduated from Hesston Academy, Hesston, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Kuhns, from Schickley, Nebraska. She and Ken enjoyed 55 years of marriage before his death in 1999. She passed peacefully at her home in Glendale, Arizona. Opal was a wife, mother and homemaker, but she also loved working in sales. Read More	Opal (Schrock) Kuhns was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Corvallis, Oregon and grew up there, but graduated from Hesston Academy, Hesston, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Kuhns, from Schickley, Nebraska. She and Ken enjoyed 55 years of marriage before his death in 1999. She passed peacefully at her home in Glendale, Arizona. Opal was a wife, mother and homemaker, but she also loved working in sales. She was a passionate reader and an avid gardener who grew bountiful veggies and flowers. A woman of great faith, she knew the Bible, sang a lovely alto and enjoyed working in the Mennonite church and teaching Sunday school. She fished everywhere she could — from stream to river to lake to ocean. She loved to cook and bake — she made wonderful Sunday dinners and a "mean" apple pie. She and Ken lived much of their lives in Colorado: Glenwood Springs, where they helped build Glenwood Mennonite Church in 1950's; Wheatridge, then Silt, Aspen, and Grand Junction after retirement; South Dakota and Santa Barbara, California in between. Opal moved to Glendale in 2001 and attended Sunnyslope Mennonite Church as well as Glencroft Community Church. Opal is survived by two sons: David (Diann), of Hillsboro, OR, and Ken Jr. (Gail), of Silt, CO; two daughters: Barbara (Larry) Weaver, of New Holland, PA, and Nellene (John) Plouffe, of San Juan Capistrano, CA; two sisters: Irene Herbert and Pearl Kotyo; and numerous loving and caring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers: Vernon, Earl and Dale. Memorial service will be held Jan. 30 in Glendale, Arizona. Memorial and burial in Silt, Colorado in May, next to her beloved Ken. Post Independent (Glenwood Springs, CO) 01/29/2010
